Welcome to DI ROCCO world …

The Institute I.I.S. DI ROCCO is composed of 3 schools:

1.The  Technical High school for Agriculture in Caltanissetta was born after the second world war as a technical agrarian school; it is the school that historically was born before the other associated schools. Today it is attended by about 180 students. There are two courses of 5 years. After the third year the students can choose between two specializations: the first one is about agriculture linked to the environment; the second one is agriculture linked to the transformation of agricultural and zootechnical products (milk, oil, wine, food preservation and so on).
The most important laboratories of the  Technical High School for Agriculture are the following:  the laboratory of chemistry, science, zootechnics, rural engineers and the farm.
The diploma of “Land Surveyor” (Technician  for Agriculture) that the students will get at the end of the fifth year and after the final exams, will let them  manage small and medium-sized farms, husbandry, agro-business, practise a free profession, go to University, teach and apply for a public job in the agricultural and forest sectors.
The classes of the Technical School for Agriculture have been located in the new building (next to the central one) since the beginning of this school year.
Some students, about forty, attending the Technical School for Agriculture, are accommodated in our boarding school  that is next to this building.
Once, our boarding school was a monastery of Carmelite Fathers; it’s a bound building since it is an architectonic and monumental patrimony; it’s open from Monday morning to Saturday morning because our boarders coming from the Province  of Palermo, Enna and Agrigento arrive here on Mondays and they come back home on Saturdays.
The boarders attend the lessons in the morning and in the afternoon they do their homework, supported by the educators, who are specialized people.
In the late afternoon they can go out from the boarding school building to go for a walk and integrate with other people in the town.
The meals are prepared and given to the students in the boarding school  canteen that is managed directly by our Institute through our specialized staff.

 2. The Vocational School for Agriculture and the environment in San Cataldo was born in the sixties as an agricultural school.
Since these villages or small towns had an agricultural economy, the aim of these schools was to create agricultural workers specialized in the different sectors of agriculture.
Today the I. P. A ( vocational school for agriculture) has different characteristics after the revolution in the vocational schools of 1992.
Now the vocational school for agriculture  has courses of five years, divided into 3 parts: the first two years, a third year ( to get the qualification as an agro-environmental worker and after this qualification the student  can leave the school) and other  two years, with the final exams, through which  he can go to University.
The Vocational School for Agriculture in San Cataldo is attended by 100 students and there’s a course which is complete.
The Vocational School for agriculture in Mazzarino is attended by 130 students with a course which is complete and another first and second class with  a total of 7 classes.
The farm is the real laboratory for the students who attend the agro-environmental vocational school, but there are the laboratories of: chemistry, science, computer science, rural engineers.
The diploma of agro-technician let the students manage small and medium-sized farms, husbandry, practise a free profession, teach techno-practical subjects that have characterized their course of study.

 3. The Technical High school for The Hotel Services and Restaurants was born on September two thousand; at the beginning there were only 4 classes and 120 students (one hundred and twenty). Today there are more than 700( seven hundred)students  in 29 classes. The programs of this school are various and articulated. After the first two years that are common to everybody, the students attend the third year which is a year of qualification; the students have to choose among three possibilities; they can become chef, maitre or receptionist.
After that,  they are qualified and they can leave school and look for a job.
The have the possibility to attend a fourth and fifth year in order to achieve the diploma: the ones that are chef or maitre get the diploma of Restoration Services,  whereas the receptionists get the diploma of Touristic Services.
After the diploma, the students can go to University or they can find a job that may be subordinated or independent.  The diploma is  written in different European languages and it is recognized in every State of the European Union.  During the last two years students attend a course of specialization of 600 ( six hundred) hours; 240 (two hundred and forty ) are “stages” in restaurants and hotels. This organization aims at giving the students a high preparation so that they can realize the connection between school and work.
The most important laboratories are: the kitchen, the bar, the restaurant hall, the reception , computer science  and  linguistic laboratories. Our school has a great experience in preparing catering and parties for external Institutions thanks to the abilities of our practical teachers in organizing such events.
The didactic organization of our institute is based on a detailed preparation and subdivision of the subjects which are divided into modules and didactic unities. The different modules are interrelated  among the different subjects. The teachers choose the topics according to the interests of every single class and take into consideration the environment in which the students live. Of course they must respect the final objectives stated by the Ministry of Education.
One of the most important experiences is the presence of two teachers teaching similar subjects, at the same hour and in the same class in order to reach better the established objectives.
The assembly of teachers gives particular attention to formation of man as a citizen and as a technician. For this reason every year the assembly approves the document: Methodological-Didactic Action” which is the starting point of every didactic action for each teacher and for the class Council as a whole.
This document establishes the criteria for the evaluation of the students that must be common to all teachers. The “ Methodological-Didactic Action”  is part of the P.O.F. (Formative Offering Plan), a sort of instrument to identify the Institute and all the activities  that will be done during that school year in order to answer all the  requirements of the students and of the environment in which the Institute is situated.
The assembly of teachers is divided into commissions, each of them has the particular task to facilitate the work of the assembly.
As our Institute has a complex structure, the Principal is helped by a group of teachers ( An Office of Presidency or board of Directors); they give their collaboration in the management of the Institute.   It is composed of the Principal, the Director of Administrative Services, the Vice-Principal, the teachers who are responsible of every associated school and the teachers who have particular functions.
